Alex has been the physiotherapist at Sedbergh School, Cumbria for the last eight years. Physiotherapy services are now based in the new Health centre with Leanne now also providing an additional day and Alasdair providing rehabilitation and sports massage.
The medical team see a large and varied caseload in young people aged 9 -18 years of age.
The Autumn term is usually exceptionally busy with rugby injuries in abundance and we treat some very complex traumatic injuries both pre and post operatively. We aim to ensure the prompt but safe return of these young people to the field of play after injury. We work with some of the most accomplished and well respected surgeons in the country.
The Wilson Run, an 11 mile fell run at the end of the Lent term can also take its toll on those students with lower limb biomechanical problems and overuse injuries,. Sprains and strains dominate the work list as the race draws closer.
With a strong emphasis on rugby, hockey and sporting excellence at Sedbergh , the assessment and treatment of sports injuries and rehabilitation programs following injury form a large element in the work we do. We love this aspect of the work but we also like to prevent injury where possible!
We have the opportunity to observe and learn from physiotherapists, doctors and surgeons from all over the country, and this constantly challenges our treatment protocols.
Effective treatment requires specialist knowledge and so we continue to attend post graduate courses to update our education and skills in the many areas associated with musculo-skeletal physiotherapy and acupuncture.
