Helping you to achieve your potential.
Welcome to Morecambe Bay Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic
The clinic opened in December 2007 after substantial renovation works. The first floor of Highfield Cottage has been transformed into a spacious physiotherapy practice with two large private treatment rooms, a gym area for rehab and a welcoming waiting room.
There is a wide range of specialised equipment available for clients including:
Combination interferential and ultrasound machines, trophic stimulators, a universal traction bed suitable for neck, thoracic and lumbar spine treatments. We also utilise the very latest neuromuscular biofeedback equipment in womens health and core stability retraining programs. Rehabilitation equipment such as swiss balls, wall bars, weights, fast foot ladders, wobble cushions, VooDoo boards, trampette and medicine balls are all used in exercise programs to allow clients to return to full function following injury.
Treatment times are flexible and designed to allow you to attend from early morning to late evening ( 7.30am - 9.00pm). We are also open on a Saturday morning from 8.30 until 1pm. These appointments tend to be popular so please book early to avoid disappointment.
Alex Burch MCSP MAACP
I qualified from The Queens College, Glasgow in 1991, with a BSc Degree in Physiotherapy.
Initially I worked within the NHS rotating throughout orthopaedic, medical, surgical and hydrotherapy departments, before dipping my toes into private practice on a part time basis in Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes. I worked both in GP surgeries and sports injury clinics including the well known Blackberry Clinic in Milton Keynes. I expanded my private practice winning a G.P contract in Woburn Sands, providing physiotherapy for 6 doctors and their patients during the fund holding era. I really enjoyed this new challenge. It makes such a big difference seeing people quickly after initial injury, thus preventing the more chronic complications that occur when conditions remain untreated.
I returned to the NHS when we moved North in 2000, working in the outpatient department of the Queen Victoria Centre, Morecambe. In 2004, I began working part time at Physio4U based at Total Fitness in Lancaster, and shortly after this I began my work at Sedbergh School. I joined the Lakeland and Lunesdale Clinic in Milnthorpe in 2005 where I stayed on a part time basis until November 2008. Working in a wide variety of settings was great, but I wanted to make a few changes, so I opened Morecambe Bay Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic in 2007.
Early physiotherapy intervention is key to achieving a more speedy and favorable outcome with musculo-skeletal conditions, so the sooner you are assessed following injury the better.

Sporting Excellence at Sedbergh School
I have been the physiotherapist at Sedbergh School, Cumbria for the last four years where I am privileged to work alongside a G.P ( Dr. Phillip Batty ), together with a small nursing staff within the school's own medical centre. I provide 2 physiotherapy clinics each week during term time, and I treat a large and varied caseload in young people aged 13 -18 years of age. The Autumn term is usually exceptionally busy with rugby injuries in abundance. The Wilson Run, a 10 mile fell run at the end of the Lent term can also take its toll on those students with lower limb biomechanical problems and overuse injuries. Sprains and strains dominate my worklist as the race draws closer.
With a strong emphasis on rugby, hockey and sporting excellence at Sedbergh , the assessment and treatment of sports injuries and rehabilitation programs following injury form a large element in the work I do. I love this aspect of my work!
I have had the opportunity to observe and learn from doctors and surgeons from all over the country, and this constantly challenges my treatment protocols.
Effective treatment requires specialist knowledge and so I continue to attend post graduate courses to update my education and skills in the many areas associated with neuromusculo-skeletal physiotherapy and acupuncture.

Anna Child, MCSP
Anna is the most recent addition to our team joining the clinic in May 2009 as an Associate Physiotherapist. She is in clinic on Monday afternoons/ evenings and also Wednesday evenings. Anna is an experienced clinician who continues to combine her NHS work with private practice. Anna will be extending our regular physiotherapy services by running individual and small group pilates sessions at the clinic. The quality of teaching provided by Anna ensures a high level of skill is learned. We do this by maintaining a very low client to therapist ratio because we believe that this is of most benefit to you, the client. Such small numbers ensures that you really gain from these pilates sessions, learn the correct techniques from the outset and avoid the development of any bad habits that may lead to injuries .
We frequently use a kinetic control ( motor control and stability retraining) approach in the clinic and pilates sessions will prove to be a great follow on for some of our existing clients, as well as those new clients wishing to try pilates for the first time.
Please get in touch with Anna via our contact page for more information or call the clinic on 01524 426964 for an appointment. The sessions will be running on a Monday evening in 4 week blocks. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
